Our featured toy hauler this issue is the Wide Open, built by Endura Max out of Goshen, Indiana. Although this company was formed in 2006, don’t let their young age fool you; they were born from Gulfstream Coach, one of the premier RV manufacturers in the United States, giving them experience far beyond their years.
With that we bring you the all new Wide Open fifthwheel. As you walk up to this rig you will immeiadeatly notice the laminated sidewall construction. It gives the outside that smooth polished look that you just don’t get from other sidewalls. These are also the desired walls in terms of strength and insulation. Basically, the double thick aluminum tube frame is “fixture” welded and has foam pressed between the fiberglass and the lamination (lauan plywood), providing very strong well insulated walls that are built to stand the test of time. But it’s not just the walls; the roof and floor are built in a similar fashion providing a very strong all-around build. This rig also has a fully enclosed underbelly, which you just don’t see on many toy haulers. Three axles rated at 6,000 pounds each with aluminum rims, brakes on every hub, and load range “E” tires should have you driving and stopping with confidence. The aggressive graphics are also real eye catching.
The master bedroom is spacious with a queen bed that has full storage underneath. Under that you have full pass-through storage accessibility from the outside. The bed lifts with the assistance of gas struts. The bedroom also has a full-width closet across the front and plenty of cabinets to hold everything you could possibly need.
The bathroom is a split set up with the pedal flush toilet and power roof vent in its own room. A separate waterfall glass shower enclosure with a skylight is part of the master suite. This rig has a twelve gallon hot water heater and two thirty pound LP tanks with room for two more. So running out of hot water will not be a problem. An accordion style door separates the master from the rest of the coach.
As we go inside the living area the quality continues with solid wood cabinets that look great and come in the standard or sport versions. The wood is also used on the trim and doors of the Wide Open. The kitchen is well equipped with a three burner range, convection microwave, and twin bowl sink. The large two door fridge has plenty of room for all your favorites and the cabinets are constructed with residential quality fittings. The triple slide model has a center island which provides a lot of extra counter space. Both the dinette and couch convert to sleeping areas allowing for up to twelve people to sleep comfortably: yes twelve! You can also choose the free standing dinette rather than the booth style, which we really like. But if you choose the dinette, you will loose a little storage space and the additional sleeping area.
By far the most unique feature on this rig is the sliding glass door entry to the garage. This does a couple of things. First, the access to the garage is easier because the glass door is much wider than the standard doors on other trailers. Second, it also gives a wide open look, no pun intended, since you can see into the garage.
Speaking of the garage (our favorite part), you will have plenty of room for all the toys with the 98”x 154” size. There are also several other very nice features. You get twin tube florescent lights, AM/FM/CD player with speakers, a pull down work station, built-in tie down systems, and they even put in floor drains just in case of a mess. Four large windows, double electric queen bunks, and fuel resistant flooring complete the garage area. All the toys get filled up by the outside fuel station so there will be no need for gas cans. Access to all the fun will come via a 2,500 pound capacity ramp door with integrated springs that have zirk fitting for easy lubrication. The ramp measures 101” long so you should have a nice shallow loading angle and the anti theft locking system should keep the bad guys looking for an easier target.
Endura Max is designing products specifically for the toy owner. With fifthwheels, bumper pulls, drivable, and custom enclosed options, they aim to fill the needs of the entire toy hauling community. We even saw some examples of their matched set ups that we will show you in a future issue.
