DiamondBack Truck Covers
Transporting your ATVs and all your gear can be a real challenge when you’re headed out for a weekend ride or on vacation with the family. Throw a camper or boat into the mix and your options become limited to double towing, two vehicles, or buying a new toyhauler. Double towing and two vehicles have their obvious drawbacks and if you already own the camper and just picked up the ATVs, adding a new toyhauler to the monthly bill pile might not be the best option, either.
In the past several years, many companies have attempted to tackle this problem through various means. Hitch racks, bed racks, and even over-the-cab racks have been designed to help ATV riders be able to “take it all with one truck.” Several years ago, a new product called the DiamondBack Truck Cover added a whole new level to ATV transportation and is providing an alternative to trailers for everyday ATV users.
The DiamondBack Truck Cover is unique because, as its name suggests, it is a truck cover, first. Ethan Wendle, President of DiamondBack says, “We found that many truck owners had the need to seal and lock the contents of their bed with a cover, but also maintain the hauling capacity of their truck. DiamondBack set out first to make a cover for the truck and then began adding accessories for top hauling. The focus on producing a bed cover first has resulted in tonneau cover advantages such as lockable security, no drill installation, the ability to open the cover from the front or rear of the bed, and the ability to fold or remove the cover in seconds.
DiamondBack Truck Covers can also transport up to 1600 lbs on top which allows for almost any two full-size ATVs to be carried. Because the ATVs are positioned over the bed of the truck, ATV users can use their hitch to tow their boat, camper or more ATVs to the trailhead.
The fact that the product is originally designed as a cover means that it does require some attachments and additional accessories to convert it for ATV transportation use. The DiamondBack ATV Solutions include 12’ folding aluminum ATV Ramps, an extension deck to allow a short bed (6.5’) truck to haul 2 ATVs, and cab guards and side rails for protection. The ATV ramps have several safety features including 3” aluminum side walls, a 15” track, and hooks that eliminate kick-out. Also, because the ramps are almost 12’ long, the load incline is about the same as a standard set of ramps on the tailgate.
Another unique advantage with the DiamondBack Truck Cover is that it is designed to stay on the truck all year round. Old rack-style systems required loading and unloading a 150-250 lb rack every time you needed to haul your ATVs. The DiamondBack stays on the truck and provides bed security year round, plus if you need to get it off to haul tall items, the cover folds or comes apart in pieces, making one-person removal an easy task.
The DiamondBack has one other advantage which makes combining it with a camper a better option in some cases than even a toyhauler. Many ATV destinations, such as Hatfield McCoy Trails in WV, have multiple trailheads accessible by truck. Uprooting the campsite every time you want to take your quads to a new location can be both time consuming and frustrating. The DiamondBack allows you to leave your camper at the campsite, and take your ATVs and your gear in your truck to the trailhead.
No matter where you need to go this spring and summer, the DiamondBack Truck Cover has some great options to get you, your family, your camper, and your ATVs to your destination.
