McKenzie's Dune Chaser
Every year at about this time, hundreds of thousands of “sand-aholics” get ready for their migratory trips to sand dune locations across the U.S. Considering that, we thought it fitting to feature a rig with the “duner” in mind. Enter the Dune Chaser built by McKenzie RV, a division of Monaco Coach.

This particular unit is a 102-in wide-body that is completely framed with an aluminum superstructure. McKenzie also uses a Z-shaped gusset system throughout the build for extra strength. The roof on these units is one of the best in the industry with the rafters placed every 16 inches, aluminum with double I-beam construction, and nine layers of protection from the elements. The quality continues down the side walls with a six-layer process. The exterior walls are wrapped in a .040 gauge aluminum skin. You may notice that the word “aluminum” keeps coming up in the construction process. This is what really sets this unit apart. As you know, aluminum is lighter and stronger than the other metal options available.

Continuing on with the build brings us to the suspension. McKenzie is one of the only coaches to add shock absorbers to their rigs. Shocks will not only provide a smooth ride while on the pavement but will keep the vibration from affecting your rig on that washboard dirt road to your favorite riding area. The triple axel units come with 5200-lb sealed bearing axles, electric brakes, and 15” aluminum wheels with chrome centers. The underbelly is also enclosed and heated, meaning you won’t have to worry about holding tanks freezing, which is great for the colder climates.

Stepping inside the garage, you will have heavy-duty, oil-resistant flooring with a polished, anodized diamond plate wall protector. Securing the toys will come via six 2500-lb flush mounted tie-downs in the separate garage. The pass-through model comes with nine tie-downs. The optional package includes one or two electric queen beds for extra sleeping accommodations.

As you enter the living quarters, the quality continues with brushed nickel mini-blinds and blackout shades on the windows. The fixtures all match the color scheme of the interior. The kitchen has the usual three-burner stove/oven combination with a microwave. The large eight cubic ft, two-door refrigerator and ample cabinet storage round out the galley.

The living room is spacious with a large slide-out that really opens up the room. The dinette and couch both convert into sleeping areas for the larger families. As you travel to the bedroom, you have another slide-out with a queen bed and a forward wardrobe. The bathroom is roomy and boasts fixtures that match the rest of the unit.

Whether you’re a diehard duner, a weekend street biker or maybe something in between, the Dune Chaser by McKenzie deserves to be put on the short list of possibilities for your new rig. For more information you can go online to www.mckenzierv.com or call 800-262-4654.
