Four Winds New Class "A" Fun Mover
Over the last couple of years, the toyhauler market has been evolving and the manufacturers realized that some people would rather have a motor home than a trailer. For those of you who have been doing research on motor home toyhaulers, you know that Four Winds International has been on the cutting edge for years with their Fun Mover division.

Fun Mover offers all sorts of different motor home configurations, from the Class A’s to the smaller Class C’s, and don’t forget the big four-door Super C’s with almost 14 feet of garage. There is no doubt that there are some advantages to motor homes, especially when all your toys will fit in the garage so that you don’t have to tow a trailer. Or for those with boats or other toys that a conventional toyhauler trailer just won’t handle, a motor home is the way to go.

The featured unit in this issue is the 34Y Class A motor home which is 35’9” long with a 10-foot garage. This Fun Mover has two drive train options, the Ford chassis with the 6.8L V-10 Ford motor or the Workhorse chassis with the 8.1L V-8 Chevy motor. The Ford comes in with a GVWR of 20,500 while the Workhorse is 700 lbs heavier. They can tow a 5,000 lb trailer with a 500 lb tongue weight. I didn’t see any unladen weight stickers, so I don’t know what the actual carrying capacity of the coach itself is.

The holding capacities are more for park camping than for boondocking. With only 50 gals. of fresh water, you won’t be able to stay in the desert for more than a couple of days. On the bright side, you have 88 lbs of propane, so you can cook and stay warm to your heart’s desire. It also has a 75- gal. fuel capacity to run the engine and a 5,500-watt generator. The grey and black waste tanks are both 37 gals.

The outside of this Fun Mover had a very cool optional full-body paint job with an integrated ramp door that blended into the motor home very nicely. You couldn’t even tell it was a ramp door unless you knew. It had a Vacu-Bond laminated roof and walls and floors with foam insulation. The crowned one-piece TPO roof is Energy Star approved. The floor was welded steel with the roof and sidewall cage being fully welded tubular aluminum. Another option this toyhauler had was a fully automatic hydraulic leveling system.

One of the things on the cutting edge that Four Winds offered on this model was the outside optional entertainment compartment that housed a 32” Jenson LCD TV with separate speakers and stereo controls. The party and/or kids are going to be at this toyhauler all the time.

It had an easy-to-access dump station with a big door so you don’t have to get on your knees to hook up the dump hoses. The outside was also equipped with a water hose and nozzle. This model did seem to be somewhat limited on outside storage compartments and space.

The entry door of this Class A puts you right in the middle of the coach with the living area to the right, the galley straight ahead and garage to the left. It has opposing slides in the living area that opens up the motor home well. The booth dinette is in the slide opposite the sofa, stove slide. With the option of three different hide-a-bed sofas, you can customize the area the way you want. They even have an option for an adjustable air mattress in one of the sofa beds. It has a 20” TV in the front overhead between the driving captains’ chairs. This class A also has an option for dual pane windows which are nice on those real hot or cold days.

The galley has a three-burner stove with a convection microwave and no oven. The refrigerator is opposite the stove and has a good sized pull-out pantry next to it. There is a big double-bowl sink with laminated counter tops and a good sized flip-up extension. One thing I noticed was that there is very little counter space next to the stove. Nice looking raised-panel doors on the cabinets add to the ambience.

As you walk down the hallway toward the garage, the bathroom is on the driver’s side with wardrobe closets that have pull-out racks on the left. The bathroom had good counter space with a china bowl toilet. The shower had a glass door and no tub. Overall, the bathroom was a little tight.

The garage is 96” wide by 120” long. You do lose a little width if you add the optional pull-down screen. The black rubberized flooring has good traction and looks like it will hold up to heavy use. It has standard white laminated overhead cabinets with hidden hinges. There is a huge escape hatch in the roof with a ladder mounted on the front wall of the garage. It makes for easy roof access for maintenance and inspection. You can add an electric drop- down bed, 13,500 BTU air conditioning or a Fantastic Fan if you want. If you don’t want the electric bed, you can put in the two optional fold-down jackknife beds. There is a TV coax outlet for the optional 19” LCD TV. You can totally customize the garage for what best fits you.

Overall, this is a nice Class A toyhauler with the full body paint, and, with the way the ramp door is molded into the rear of the coach, it looked very “uptown.” Because of the sleeping arrangements, I don’t know if this is a great family model. It is more for a couple that likes to travel. I think for the family I would look at the Fun Mover Class C or Super C.
