Nitrous Hyperlite is Fleetwood RV’s entry into the world of light weight toyhaulers for half ton pickup and SUV owners. These trailers are aluminum framed with fiberglass sides, which gives them the appearance of a higher end coach. I had the opportunity to check out the smallest of these trailers, the new 190FKX Nitrous, to see what it had to offer. This toyhauler was just over 23 feet in total length with almost 19 feet in the living area. The stated gross vehicle weight was 7,700 lbs., which includes a cargo capacity of 3,570 for your options, fluids, and cargo.
The first thing you notice about this toyhauler is the ABS front cap and propane covers, which make the unit look like it’s moving while sitting still. The diamond plate skirting catches your eye right away. Some of the next things you notice are that this small trailer seems to have a lot of the options a big trailer would have. It has a propane quick connect, outside shower, pressure washer, sewer hose compartment, fuel station, and air compressor with a three gallon tank—all good stuff. It even had outside controls for the stereo with all weather Kenwood speakers! There was a 4000 KW Onan generator in an unusual location, a compartment on the entry side of the coach. The next thing I noticed is that the big compartment doors that are always in the back of toyhaulers (the ones that everyone wonders what they are for) were gone. They have been replaced with little 2” by 6” openings with accessory type doors on them that you could only open from the inside. One high on the left side of the trailer and one low on the entry side for cross ventilation; the good thing about this setup—no one would be able to crawl through the doors and steal your stuff. With the springs on the outside of the ramp door it was the easiest ramp door I ever opened or closed. The ramp door was locked with integrated cam door locks. I like the locks, but they were mounted in a way that would make them easy to unbolt from the outside. It has a ST 205/ 75R14 load range C tire which lets the trailer sit low for easy towing, but only provides limited ground clearance.
The Nitrous interior has a little more than you would expect in a trailer of this size. With 100 gallons of fresh water and 40 gallon grey and waste tanks it is more than capable for a long weekend of having fun. It has a full bathroom with a shower/tub combination, sink, and toilet; it’s a little tight, but not terrible. The kitchen is pretty nice with a three burner stove, oven, and microwave. The six cubic foot refrigerator has a stainless front with a large pantry next to it. There is room for a good size TV on the shelf next to the entry door, that will need to be secured during travel. The Kenwood audio system with seven speakers rocks the house. It even has the outside controls that I mentioned earlier. There are two gaucho couches with two removable tables. The table on the entry side is mounted behind the couch. When it is up you need to be careful when lowering the couch from the wall, so that you don’t catch it on the table. The table supports have storage mounts on the wall under the couches and you need to get them out before you unhook the couches from the wall. The unit we toured has dual electric beds in the back, so you didn’t have to sleep on the couches.
When you have a trailer that is only 19 feet long, you are limited on what you can bring and/or store on the inside. I think Fleetwood has done a good job on making the best use of the room they had to work with on this trailer. By incorporating all the little stuff like the pressure washer, air compressor and outside music controls, they have given the consumer a trailer to be proud of.
