Starcraft's Rock Star
When we first heard that Starcraft RV was building a triple axel fifth wheel, we couldn’t wait to get our first look. Over the years, we have featured several units developed by the iconic manufacturer, but most of them were more of a hybrid version of a toyhauler with Starcraft’s traditional pop-up characteristics. So, when we walked into the manufacturing facility and saw a smooth-sided monster hauler, we were excited, to say the least.
We decided to start our tour on the inside of this rig, where we found several creative and innovative designs that we think will become industry standards over the next couple of years. Entering through the side door, you will find a well-equipped kitchen that was obviously well thought out to create as much usable space as possible. It had a “wrap around” counter top that keeps the kitchen contained and very functional. The living area has a large U-shaped dining area that can easily seat several adults comfortably. There is also an additional seating area perfect for putting on riding boots and the like.
The audio/video system is off the chart as well with a giant flat panel TV mounted on the wall, with good viewing from all the seating areas. The inside bunk over the garage was perhaps the most surprising design change. Rather than the traditional large bed that sleeps across the width of the trailer, this unit had two twin beds that sleep head first into the loft. We really like this feature for those with small children sleeping there. The beds were separated by a console with its own TV and game system.
As you enter the garage, you feel like you’re going into a separate room rather than a traditional garage. The cabinets match the ones in the front of the coach, and it has a dedicated space that can accommodate a second refrigerator or even a full-size Snap-On style tool box.
The other great item is the second half-bathroom. We really like this feature. If you have guests staying with you, they have their own bathroom to use. It also keeps you from walking through the coach with boots on to get to the main bathroom. Speaking of that, the primary bathroom is huge and very comfortable.
The front bedroom is a good size with a queen bed, large closet and a credenza with its own TV.
Walking around the outside, the smooth sides really look great. There is a large storage compartment forward, and the propane bottles are mounted on a retractable slide-out for easy access. The stylized rims put the finishing touch on the outside of this new rig.
