Starcraft's 2006 Lightweight Toyhaulers

Picking out the perfect toyhauler for your family can be a daunting task. What type of toys you have and how many people you need to sleep are just a couple of the things you need to consider. Our never-ending search for new and different rigs brings us to this feature on the Starcraft Travel Star. Built by perhaps one of the most recognizable names in the RV industry, Starcraft, they have come up with several units that can appeal to the masses. Building their trailers for the “regular guy” many of their haulers can be towed with a 1⁄2 ton tow vehicle. This is important because you don’t necessarily want to have to buy a new truck just because you bought a new trailer. However, things have changed a bit around the Starcraft production facility over the past few years. Recognizing the huge number of people wanting to take their toys with them on vacation, Starcraft has developed a line of rigs just for you. This line is known as the “Travel Star,” one version has a platform at the front of the trailer where you will load the toys. The floor of the platform is covered with diamond plate and you load the toys via stow-away aluminum ramps. There are also heavy-duty D-ring style tie-downs for securing the load. The second version has a rear ramp and a more traditional toyhauler look.

Perhaps the most unique thing about these trailers are the tip-outs. Used as the primary sleeping space, it provides a comfortable nights sleep and really opens up the inside of these rigs when deployed. It is very popular with the folks who want all the conveniences of home from their trailer while still achieving that “camping feeling.” (There is just nothing like opening all the screen windows and letting the fresh air in).
The Travel Stars have sleeping capacity for as many as 10 people depending upon which model you order.

All of these units are loaded with creature comforts. A/C, heat, hot water and full bathrooms are just a few of the standard features you will find. The kitchens are spacious and provide ample space for cooking your favorite meals. A three burner stove with oven and microwave will be sure to make quick work of the cooking, and the double bowl sinks will ensure whoever has “dish duty” will get back on the trail ASAP. Also, the kitchen comes equipped with a large two-door refrigerator and a table that drops down and converts to a bed. Starcraft makes good use of the available space with nice size cabinets (which we also thought had excellent fit and finish).

After having made their name in the world of pop-up campers, Starcraft has made the jump to the toyhauler market without missing a step. Using a combination of old school thought with fresh new thinking they have produced a rig that will surely have you “seeing stars.”
